05/06: An evening of readings & song, with Sarah Ménage
Come and enjoy a rattle bag of novel extracts and associated songs, performed by local writer and entertainer Sarah Ménage with Si Fish's superb accompaniment on tins and buckets.
The Glass Girl
Annabel Waites, expert collector and passionate lover of historic glass, known since childhood as 'the glass girl', has reached her very late thirties (thirty-twelve) when much to her sisters' suprise and disapproval she abandons a childless nine-year relationship to start a family with another man. Unfortunately she hasn't met the other man. So begins her hunt for the perfect mate and father.
In the midst of this pursuit, she is asked to provide accommodation for the eldest of her nieces. The glass girl discovers that, unlike her precious ornaments and vessels, she is neither cool nor collected.
This novel is set in Bristol during the early 2000's.
Sarah originated in Stratford-upon-Avon. As a student, she swapped Medicine at Barts for Drama at Rose Bruford's, spent a few years on London's alternative cabaret circuit, then fled to the West Country where she was employed in all too rapid succession by Real World Records, Van Morrison and Aardman Animations.
