Max Minerva's is Hiring!

We are looking to add a part-time bookseller to our incredible team at Max Minerva’s!

We’re very open-minded about this role. The ideal team member will bring something new to our team and expand the experience that we can offer to our customers.

There are many things that a person in this role would be expected to do.  A typical day might include:

  • Managing our POS systems for books sold in store or ordered in for collection

  • Managing stock and reordering sold books

  • Ensuring that book displays are updated, and look clean, organised, and appealing

  • Greeting customers, initiating conversations, and making recommendations based on their interests and curiosities

  • Updating the website and handling online customer orders

  • Managing returns for unsold or damaged stock

  • Assisting in content creation for the website or social media

  • Handling unforeseen events

Applicants must:

  • Have general knowledge of books broadly, with at least one area of specialist knowledge (or be able to demonstrate that you’re a quick learner that’s willing to create that area quickly)

  • Be available to work from August/September 2026

  • Be passionate about books and providing the highest level of customer service

  • Communicate professionally, both internally and with customers

  • Be eager to learn and try new things

  • Be available for one (paid) evening hour per month for our staff meeting

That’s it! Some other things that can help you stand out are below. If some or all of these apply to you, wonderful! And if they don’t, we’d still love to hear from you and what you can bring to the shop.

Applicants could…

  • Have experience in bookselling

  • Aspire to make a change from a different career path

  • Feel comfortable on camera

  • Write exceptionally well in English, capable of persuasively recommending books in newsletters and blogs

  • Possess a keen eye for cultural moments and books that speak to them

  • Be the friend that’s known for suggesting books, movies, tv to their friends

  • Get into schools and meet parents, teachers, students, and librarians where they are, literally and/or metaphorically

  • Ideate and bring to life new, bespoke customer experiences

  • Design our display and chalkboard art

  • Repair and manage an AC unit (just kidding, but honestly it wouldn’t hurt)

In addition to a couple of shifts during the work week, the role will require one Saturday shift per fortnight, and potentially Sunday work in the future. This role will be paid at the London living wage, currently £14.80 an hour, and will require 20-25 hours per week.

To apply, please email grafton at maxminervas.co.uk with:

  • your CV
  • a personal statement about why you want to work at Max Minerva’s
  • a book recommendation
